Towards A More Inclusive Peace Table

Though the years, MPW’s active citizenship mantra has been directed towards influencing an inclusive and transparent peace process. We believe that both the GPH and MILF remain committed to the task at hand. MPW also believes that as conditions evolve, particularly during this crucial transitional stage, we gently appeal to both panels on the following bare essentials: share more information with the public and not only to their respective partisans, broaden the consensus ground through continuing dialogue, and mutually translate confidence-building measures to preserve the climate of trust in the negotiations.

Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) statement on the Framework Agreement

The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) wants to join the many that have congratulated President Benigno Aquino III and the leadership of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) led by its Chair Al Haj Murad with the recent breakthrough in their peace talks. The Framework Agreement reached between them is not only an historic step towards peace in Mindanao and the broader Philippines, but a strong signal of the commitment of both parties to change the future of the peoples of Mindanao for the better.

Finally, a Common Path to Peace

Today’s submission of the framework agreement for peace, jointly defined and agreed upon by both panels of the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is the long-awaited turn in the road for many of Mindanao’s myriad travelers, wearied of war and sapped by conflict. With finality, there is a clear commitment to peace by both leaderships, and it is now a challenge to the rest of us to shoulder the load and support the greater task ahead.

At the Cusp of Peace

As the GPH and MILF peace panels wrap up their 31st round of Formal Exploratory Talks in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, we the Mindanao Peace Weavers (MPW) await the outcomes with keen concern, interest and hope. In the decades-long process from conflict to peace in our time, we continue to remain hopeful and pray for a transformative agreement.

Our spirits are buoyed by the resolve exhibited by both panels in the depth and seriousness of their preparations prior to each meeting. The manifest willingness to remain open in defining and sharing solutions, despite the difficulties linked to critical details, reflects the admirable spirit and goodwill driving the peace process. We send our encouragement and well-wishes to all involved at this stage of the talks.
