Urgent appeal to all states to help Rohingya refugees amid COVID-19 pandemic

As the whole of humanity continue to scramble to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, hundreds of Rohingya refugees are left stranded at sea in the Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea, with some countries reportedly pushing the refugees away as governments continue to implement emergency restrictions on border controls and nationwide lockdown policies.

Regional conflict prevention group condemns killing of Korean hostages

The death of two Korean hostages in the hands of alleged Taliban kidnappers have left a gaping hole in the hearts of peace-loving citizens worldwide. Riddled with 10 bullet wounds in the different parts of his body, 42-year-old Bae Hyung-kyu did not deserve this brutal fate. Another still unidentified South Korean was found on the side of the road in the village of Arizo Kalley in Andar District, some 10 kilometers (5 miles) west of Ghazni city, We dread the lot of their 21 South Koreans companions still in the hands of the Taliban since19 July.

The Southeast Asia Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC-SEA) and the Asia Pacific Solidarity Coalition (APSOC) is organizing an international peace mission as a quick-response initiative to the critical peace and security conditions prevailing in Basilan. The Initiatives for International Dialogue (IID), an international solidarity organization based in Davao City, is the secretariat of both the GPPAC-SEA and APSOC.

Scheduled for 4 days, August 10-13, the international peace mission will be conducted in collaboration with the Mindanao Peaceweavers (MPW), the umbrella organization of nine peace networks all over Mindanao.

Assertions of the fundamental right to self-determination have become more intense and popular as peoples in the region become more assertive and involved in various fora that openly talk about self-governance, autonomy, human rights, human security, and self-determination struggles.

Focuses on communicating the issues and challenges of peacebuilding and conflict prevention, right to self determination, peace process engagement and human security work of IID.
