Regional conflict prevention group condemns killing of Korean hostages
The death of two Korean hostages in the hands of alleged Taliban kidnappers have left a gaping hole in the hearts of peace-loving citizens worldwide. Riddled with 10 bullet wounds in the different parts of his body, 42-year-old Bae Hyung-kyu did not deserve this brutal fate. Another still unidentified South Korean was found on the side of the road in the village of Arizo Kalley in Andar District, some 10 kilometers (5 miles) west of Ghazni city, We dread the lot of their 21 South Koreans companions still in the hands of the Taliban since19 July.
Stay the swords, give peace a chance
A global conflict prevention network in Southeast Asia urged both the Philippine government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to exhaust all remedies available to resolve the crisis spawned by the unfortunate July 10 Basilan tragedy without necessarily shedding more bloodshed and destruction to properties in the process. The Southeast Asia Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (SEA GPPAC) called on the protagonists to find peaceful means, no matter how tedious it may be, as a civilized way to address the Basilan crisis. At the same time, it expressed grave concern over the fate of the civilians — especially the children, women, and the elderly — who are vulnerable if the peace and security situation will turn to worse.
