Davao City launches multi-sectoral action on September 21, International Day of Peace. Part of the event was the “Barug Dabaw, Barug Kalinaw” silent march and tribute for peace and honoring all victims of violence, past to present.

Dabawenyos join International Peace day celebration

In part an expression of solidarity with the victims of the Roxas bombing, Gus Miclat of the Initiatives for Internationl Dialogue helped local groups organize the “Barug Dabaw: Barug Kalinaw” International Day of Peace observance in Davao City last September 21. Davao City’s history of dealing with violent acts and attacks from the past (Martial Law) to the present (Roxas bombing), served as the backdrop in showing the world Davao’s resiliency and continuing desire for peace. A combination silent-march, solidarity dinner with the vendor community of Roxas and the “Huni sa Kalinaw” peace concert capped the one-day event.
